SILVER SPRING REDEVELOPMENT
STEERING COMMITTEE SEEKS
APPLICANTS FOR WORKING GROUPS For Immediate Release: April 17, 1997
The Silver Spring Redevelopment Steering Committee, recently appointed by County
Executive Douglas M. Duncan, is seeking applicants for six working groups that will help
support the steering committee's efforts to develop a local strategy for redeveloping and
revitalizing downtown Silver Spring.
The working groups -- Economic Development and Business Marketing; Commercial
Revitalization; Community Activities and Facilities; Transportation and Public Safety;
Housing; Strategic Planning, Design and Image; and Local Governance and Community
Organization -- will each be comprised of approximately 15 members, including existing
members of the steering committee. The Economic Development and Business Marketing
working group will be divided into two separate sub groups, each with 15 members.
Applicants should represent civic, business and community groups in the Silver Spring
area. The committee is particularly interested in applicants who represent the diverse
populations in the community.
