SILVER SPRING FIRE SERVICE
TASK FORCE TO HOLD PUBLIC
MEETING ON MAY 1 For Immediate Release: April 21, 1997
The Silver Spring Ad Hoc Fire Service Task Force will hold its next regular meeting
on Thursday, May 1 at 7 p.m. in the main conference room of the Silver Spring Regional
Services Center, 8818 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring.
The task force is evaluating a recommendation by the Montgomery County Fire and
Rescue Commission to close and merge two fire stations in Silver Spring. Under the
commission's proposal, Silver Spring Volunteer Fire Department, Station 1 (located in the
downtown area at Georgia and Silver Spring avenues) and Station 19 (located in the
Montgomery Hills section at Georgia Avenue and Seminary Road) would be closed and
merged into one single station located near the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Spring
Street.
The 12-member task force is expected to present its findings and forward its
recommendations to County Executive Douglas M. Duncan in early June.
