 COUNTY OFFICIALS KICKOFF
 ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH  For Immediate Release: Apr. 25, 1997
 
 
      The public is invited to attend ceremonies marking the beginning of Asian Pacific
 American Heritage Month on April 30, at 6 p.m., in the  Executive Office Building lobby
 auditorium, 101 Monroe Street, Rockville.
      County Executive Douglas M. Duncan and the County Council will proclaim May as
 Asian Pacific American Month.  The proclamation will be received by Shu-ping Chan,
 president of the Asian Pacific Heritage Council, Saiful Islam, president of the Bangladesh
 Association of America, Sovan Tun, president of the Cambodian Buddhist Society and Vichai
 Malikul, president of the Thais for Thai Association.
      An Asian Art Exhibit, featuring stone sculptures and paintings by south and
 southeastern Asian artists, will be on display in the lobby of the Executive Office Building 
 during May.   Works in the exhibit are by artists Sunil Sukla (Bangladesh), Chanthou Oeur
 (Cambodia), Manjulika Ghosh (India) Evangeline Rada (Philippines) and Vichai Malikul
 (Thailand).  The public may view the exhibit weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
      Parking is available on the G2 level under the building, or in the Council Office
 Building garage at Jefferson and Monroe streets.
