COUNTY OBSERVES
TRANSPORTATION CHOICES WEEK
WITH AWARDS BREAKFAST, PROCLAMATION For Immediate Release: May 8, 1997
Montgomery County will celebrate Transportation Choices Week, observed nationally
from May 11 through 17, with the 12th annual Transportation Awards Ceremony, to be held
at the Hyatt Regency in Bethesda on May 14.
Companies that support and promote commuting options and employees who use the
options will be recognized for using transportation alternatives such as carpooling,
vanpooling, biking, and walking, in addition to Ride On, Metrobus, Metrorail, MARC and the
Mass Transit Administration. Thirty-five local companies and individuals will receive
awards.
County Executive Douglas M. Duncan and Council President Marilyn J. Praisner will
present a proclamation designating Transportation Choices Week in Montgomery County.
The keynote speaker will be Stewart Bainum, Jr., chairman of the board of Manor
Care, Inc. Carlton R. Sickles will be recognized for his contributions to the metro area transit
system and for promoting transportation alternatives.
