DUNCAN SEEKS APPLICANTS FOR 
CHARTER REVIEW COMMISSION     For Immediate Release:  May 13, 1997



     County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applicants to fill a partial-term
vacancy on the County's Charter Review Commission.  The term expires in December 1998.
     The County Charter was amended in 1976 to provide that a Charter Review
Commission be appointed by the County Council every four years to study the Charter. 
Commission reports are submitted no later than May 1 of every even-numbered year. These
reports contain recommendations concerning any proposed Charter amendments.
     The Commission is composed of eleven residents of the County, five of whom are
appointed from a list of names submitted by the County Executive.  No more than six
members can be from the same political party.  The chairperson is designated by the Council
and the vice chairperson is designated by the County Executive.
     Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month at 8:00 a.m. in Rockville. 
Applicants should send a letter of interest stating why they would like to serve on the
Commission no later than June 6 to County Executive Douglas M. Duncan at the Executive
Office Building, 101 Monroe Street, Rockville, Maryland 20850.  Home and office telephone
numbers should be included.  Members of County boards, committees and commissions may
not serve on more than one such group at a time.

     Duncan's appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. 
Applications of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the confirmation
process.
