FARMERS MARKETS OPENING
FIRST WEEK OF JUNE            For Immediate Release:  May 15, 1997    
          
     Montgomery County's Department of Economic Development and the
Montgomery County Farmers Market Association will be opening six farmers markets
for the 1997 growing season.  The markets will operate from June 1 to October  31.
     The markets will offer a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the
growing season at the following locations:
       Bethesda - - National Institute of Health, 9000 Wisconsin Avenue on
       parking lot 41B, Tuesdays from 2-6 p.m.
       Damascus - - MD Route 108, behind the Damascus Library, Wednesdays
       from 3-7 p.m.

       Gaithersburg - - Southern States, 8 South Summit Avenue, Thursdays
       from 1-6 p.m.
       Germantown - - Upcounty Services Center/Germantown Public Library,
       12900 Middlebrook Road, Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
       Potomac - - Potomac Presbyterian Church, 10301 River Road, Thursdays
       from 1-4:30 p.m.
       Silver Spring - - Silver Spring Armory, Wayne Avenue and Fenton Street, 
       Saturdays from 7 a.m. - 1 p.m.
