DIVERSITY PROGRAMS TO FEATURE
TOPICS ON OLDER AMERICAN'S AND
ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN HERITAGE
MONTHS For Immediate Release, May 15, 1997

The public is invited to two upcoming programs featuring topics relevant to Older
Americans Month and Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. Both programs will be held
at the Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe Street, Rockville.
On May 20, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m., a program entitled Dealing with Elder Care Issues
in your Family, will be presented by Judy Kramer, a local columnist who writes about senior
citizens issues and has been featured on such programs as "Good Morning America" and the
"Diane Rehm Show". In addition, a panel of staff members from the County's Division of
Aging and Disability Services will discuss available resources in the County.
On May 28, from 10:00 to 11:50 a.m., Delegate Kumar Barve, chair of Montgomery
County's House Delegation, will be a featured speaker on the topic of The Asianization of
Montgomery County, and how Asian Americans are contributing to business, politics,
education and the community. A 26-minute video and a panel discussion on key issues will
also be presented. Barve is the first Asian American of East Indian descent to serve in the
Maryland House of Delegates.

parking garage. Additional metered spaces are also available across the street in the Council
Office Building Parking garage at the intersection of East Jefferson and Monroe streets.
The programs are sponsored by the Montgomery County Office of Human Resources,
Department of Health and Human Resources and the County Executive's Office of
Community Outreach.
