COUNTY CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING
OF RATTLEWOOD GOLF COURSE           For Immediate Release: May 19, 1997


     An 18-hole championship course set in the rolling hills on the Montgomery-Frederick
County border celebrated its Grand Opening today as the County's newest golf facility.
     The 185-acre facility includes a full-service clubhouse and pro shop,  lessons, a
driving range and putting green.  One hundred-thirty acres of the course are in Montgomery
County and the remaining 55 acres are in Frederick County.
     Speaking at the ceremony, emceed by sportscaster Johnny Holliday, were County
Executive Douglas M. Duncan and County Councilmember Nancy Dacek.  Other officials
attending included members and representatives of the Maryland General Assembly, County
Council, Montgomery County Planning Board and Department of Parks, County agencies, and
the town of Mt. Airy.
     Operated by the Montgomery County Revenue Authority, Rattlewood Golf Course is
the fourth facility in a planned five-course system.  The three other existing courses are Falls
Road, Poolesville and Laytonsville.  The fifth, Hampshire Greens, is scheduled for completion
in Summer of 1998.
     No tax dollars are received by the Revenue Authority for its projects.  User fees fund

projects such as the Montgomery County Airpark and the Takoma Tower Retirement Center. 
The authority also provides funding for three public swimming pools.                               
     Rattlewood is located at 13501 Penn Shop Road (off of Maryland Route 27), Mt Airy. 
The course is open weekdays from 7 a.m. until dark; weekends 6:30 a.m. until dark.
