IMPACT OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS
ON THE LATINO COMMUNITY TO BE
THE FOCUS OF A COUNTY WORKSHOP
ON MAY 31 For Immediate Release, May 22, 1997
In recognition of World No Tobacco Day, the public is invited to a May 31 workshop
on the impact of tobacco use on the Latino community. The Saturday workshop, which will
be held from 8:45 a.m. to noon in the Lobby Auditorium of the Executive Office Building in
Rockville, will be conducted by a panel of local physicians. Presentations will include
medical research findings and discussions on what can be done locally to reduce smoking
among the Latino community.
World No Tobacco Day, an anti-smoking campaign sponsored by the World Health
Organizations and local groups across the nation, is designed to bring attention to the medical
issues concerning the use of tobacco products.
The free workshop is sponsored by the Montgomery County Department of Health and
Human Services, Adventist HealthCare and the National Hispanic Health Coalition.
Persons wishing to attend should pre-register by calling 301-217-1710. The Executive
Office Building is located at 101 Monroe Street. Free Parking is available on the G-2 level
of the underground parking garage.
