PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE TO BE
ERECTED OVER BRADLEY BLVD.
FOR U.S. OPEN TOURNAMENT For Immediate Release: May 23, 1997
A temporary 14½-foot high bridge will be erected across Bradley Blvd in Bethesda to
provide spectator access to Congressional Country Club during the U.S. Open Golf
Championship (June 2 - 8). As there is no pedestrian access to Congressional Country Club,
the bridge will serve as the primary location for spectators to enter the tournament --
protecting pedestrians from Bradley Blvd. traffic. Spectators will be shuttled in buses to the
Connelly School from satellite parking lots in North Potomac (MD) and the Bethesda Metro
Station.
The bridge, which is being paid for by the United States Golf Association, will be put
into place on May 28 between 8 p.m. and 1 a.m. During its placement, traffic on Bradley
Blvd. may be halted as workers set the structure in place.
The bridge will be removed following the tournament, and the area will be restored to
its previous condition.
