PULSE ELECTRONICS EXPANDS
MONTGOMERY OPERATIONS; BREAKS
GROUND FOR NEW MANUFACTURING
AND OFFICE COMPLEX IN GERMANTOWN For Immediate Release: May 29, 1997
Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan and other County and State
officials joined representatives of Pulse Electronics, Inc. today for groundbreaking ceremonies
for a new manufacturing and office complex at Germantown's Milestone site. When
completed, the 75,000 square-foot electronic assembly and product engineering, design, and
testing facility will allow the company to nearly double the number of workers that it
employs in the County. The new state-of-the-art facility will house current company
operations and accommodate an additional 50,000 square feet of future growth.
"This location will provide Pulse Electronics with accessibility to a highly qualified
labor force and the ability to grow, two key ingredients essential to building and maintaining
a competitive edge, said County Executive Douglas M. Duncan. I'm delighted with Pulse's
decision to expand their operations here in the County and we are committed to supporting
this exciting project.
Based in Rockville, the 20-year old firm was recently acquired by Westinghouse
Airbrake Company (WABCO) which is involved in the manufacturing of electronic braking
equipment for the railroad industry.

Currently employing 280 workers, Pulse's expansion at Milestone will provide 220
additional jobs. Construction is expected to begin shortly, with completion scheduled by
March 1998.
Pulse is kicking off an aggressive growth agenda. The new Germantown facility will
promote the success of WABCO’s expanding operations and support continuing
improvements in railroad performance and safety, said Emilio Fernandez, Executive Vice
President of WABCO and founder and president of Pulse Electronics, Inc.
Montgomery County will provide Pulse Electronics with expansion assistance in the
form of a conditional grant from the County’s Economic Development Fund, in addition to
support in facilitating completion of the construction project.
