ROCKVILLE BUILDING TO BE
DEMOLISHED BY IMPLOSION, JUNE 8 For Immediate Release: June 1, 1997

A six-story office building in Rockville will be demolished by implosion on Sunday,
June 8 at 7 a.m. The demolition of the Washington Science Center building at 6001
Executive Blvd. will be conducted by the Berg Group, a Baltimore-based demolition firm
working for ADC Builders, Inc., a division of the Ronald Cohen Family Interests, a Bethesda-
based General Contractor. The building, which is owned by Washington Science Center Joint
Venture (Richard and Ronald Cohen, co-trustees), is being demolished to make room for an
eight-story, 260,000-square-foot building.
For safety reasons, motorists travelling on Executive Blvd., Old Georgetown and
Montrose roads in the vicinity of the building may be halted momentarily by County police
officers just prior to the detonation.
A 450-foot safety perimeter around the building will be established by the contractor
during the demolition operation. While no residential properties are located within close
proximity to the building, local homeowners may hear the muffled blast or see the dust cloud
from the controlled-collapse of the structure.
A "viewing and parking area" has been established at 6000 Executive Blvd. (across the
street) by the contractor for anyone wishing to watch the demolition. Motorists wishing to
park at this location must enter the lot prior to 6:45 a.m., when the road will be closed.

allergies are encouraged not to attend.

NOTE TO EDITORS: A special "news media area" (which offers a better view of the
collapse) will be located south of the building on Executive Blvd. Media credentials will be
required for anyone wishing to view or photograph from this site. In addition, all vehicles
must be in place at the parking area prior to 6:45 a.m. A spokesperson from the Berg Group
will be available for interviews.
