FIRE/RESCUE COMMISSION HOSTS FORUM
ON SILVER SPRING/TAKOMA PARK FIRE SERVICES For Immediate Release: June 10, 1997
On June 24, the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Commission will host a public forum to
discuss fire and rescue services currently provided from Silver Spring Fire Station 1 (presently located at
8131 Georgia Avenue), Silver Spring Fire Station 19 (presently located at 1945 Seminary Road), and
Takoma Park Fire Station 2 (located at 7201 Carroll Avenue). The forum will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the
Blair High School Auditorium, 313 Wayne Avenue, Silver Spring. The public is encouraged to attend.
The forum will feature a presentation to the Fire and Rescue Commission of findings and
recommendations by the Ad Hoc Fire Service Task Force of the Silver Spring Redevelopment Steering
Committee -- which is composed of Silver Spring residents and business owners and was established by
County Executive Douglas M. Duncan in response to public concern following a forum held last December.
The forum will also provide other groups and individuals with the opportunity to comment.
The public forum last December focused on the recommendation of the Silver Spring/Takoma Park
Fire-Rescue Work Group to replace or expand Station 2 at or near its present site in Takoma Park and to
combine stations 1 and 19 into a single new facility on Spring Street. The Work Group consisted of
representatives of the County, Fire/Rescue Services, Takoma Park City government, Maryland-National
Capital Park and Planning Commission, and Silver Spring Regional Advisory Board. The proposed station
would operate an engine, aerial unit, paramedic unit and ambulance.
