DUNCAN HONORS FIRST INTERNS
IN COUNTY'S "PARTNERSHIPS FOR
YOUTH ADVANCEMENT" PROGRAM For Immediate Release: June 17, 1997

Eight Montgomery County high school students were recognized by County Executive
Douglas M. Duncan and other officials today for their participation in the first year of the
County's new "Partnerships for Youth Advancement" public service internship program.
"The purpose of these partnerships is to provide students with practical experience and
the opportunity to be part of a real-life workplace," said Duncan. "This was our first year for
the internship effort and I was delighted to hear from the County agencies which hosted the
interns that the program was a great success. Both the students and the County benefited
tremendously from the experience, and that's what Partnerships for Youth Advancement is all
about."
Partnerships for Youth Advancement is sponsored by Montgomery County's Office of
Human Resources, in collaboration with Montgomery County Public Schools and
Montgomery Youth Works, the youth employment service of the County's Workforce
Development Corporation.
Students who successfully completed the 1996-97 Partnerships for Youth
Advancement program included: Barak Benjamin Ashery of Winston Churchill High School,
Bethesda; Roman Gershkovich of Watkins Mill High School, Gaithersburg; Gavin
