                      MONTGOMERY COUNTY TO IMPLEMENT 
                        CODE RED-RIDE FREE PROGRAM

                         Wednesday, June 25, 1997

     Since Wednesday, June 25 has been designated as a Code Red day, meaning the air
quality will be in the "unhealthful" range, Montgomery County's Ride On transit system has
announced that it will implement its Code Red-Ride Free program.
     Under the program, now in its third year, Ride On commuters can ride free during the
morning rush hour (until 9:30 a.m.).  The program is a joint effort between the County
departments of Environmental Protection and Public Works and Transportation.
