DUNCAN SEEKS APPLICANTS FOR NEW
POSITIONS FOR COMMISSION ON THE
HUMANITIES For Immediate Release: January 23,1997
County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applicants to fill four newly created
positions on the Commission on the Humanities. One position is for a one-year term, one is
for a two-year term, and two are for three-year terms.
The Commission is charged with promoting active consideration of the humanities in
the development of public policy; recommending to the County Executive and County
Council activities that will promote interest in the humanities; conducting studies, discussions,
and informational activities; fostering a sense of continuity between history and current
events; assisting in the application of human values to a technology-oriented society; serving
as a focused voice for the humanities in the County; submitting an annual request for funds to
support the activities of the Commission; and preparing an annual report on the activities of
the Commission.
Meetings are held on the second Monday evening of each month in Rockville.
Applicants should write by February 7 to County Executive Douglas M. Duncan, at
the Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe Street, Rockville, MD 20850. A letter and brief
resume including work and home phone numbers should be enclosed.

Members of County boards, committees, and commissions may not serve on more than one
such group at a time.
Duncan's apppointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council.
Applications of those selected are made public as part of the confirmation process.
