DUNCAN SEEKS APPLICANTS FOR
SUPERVISOR OF ASSESSMENTS FOR
MONTGOMERY COUNTY        FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 1, 1997

     County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applicants for the position of
Supervisor of Assessments and Taxation for Montgomery County, Maryland.  The Supervisor
of Assessments is responsible for administering all real property tax laws for the State of
Maryland in  Montgomery County.  These responsibilities include performing property
valuations for all real property in the County.
     In accordance with Section 2-105 of the Tax-Property Article of the Annotated Code
of Maryland, the County Executive with approval of the County Council is to submit a list of
five qualified applicants to the Director of the State Department of Assessments and Taxation. 
The position reports to the Director of the Maryland Department of Assessments and
Taxation.
     The minimum requirements for the position include a bachelor's degree from an
accredited college or university and two years of experience in a responsible management
position or in the valuation of real property.  Additional experience in a responsible
management position or in the valuation of real property may be substituted on a year-to-year
basis for the required education.

DUNCAN SEEKS APPLICANTS FOR SUPERVISOR OF ASSESSMENTS     2-2-2-2

     Candidates must have appropriate transportation available to them, since the
Supervisor of Assessments and Taxation is required to travel.  Any candidate who is not a
resident of Montgomery County must be prepared to become a resident within one year of
appointment.  In addition, candidates must be able to demonstrate managerial capabilities and
skills, possess a knowledge and working experience in real estate assessment or appraisal, and
possess sound skills in public communication.
     The salary range for the position is $46,476 to $61,045.
