COUNTY YOUTH GROUPS TO HOLD
BATTLE OF BANDS EVENT; SEEK
HIGH SCHOOL BANDS TO PARTICIPATE              
                               For Immediate Release:  January 27, 1997

     Montgomery County Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD) will hold its annual
Under-21 Battle of the Bands concert on Saturday, March 22, in the Executive Office
Building cafeteria, 101 Monroe Street in Rockville from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m.
     Organizers are currently seeking local high school bands to participate in the
competition.  Applications are now available through high school band directors and SADD
advisors, or by calling the Department of Recreation at 217-6090.  Completed applications
must be returned by February 19.      
     In addition to local bands, music will be performed by a local disc jockey.  The event
is open to all Montgomery County students in grades 9 through 12.  Admission is $4, or $3
with a canned food donation.
     Space is limited and reservations are recommended by calling 217-6090.  Students
requiring special assistance, including transportation, are encouraged to contact the
Department of Recreation at 217-6090. 
     In addition to SADD, the event is being sponsored by the Montgomery County Youth
Advisory Committee; the County departments of Recreation and Health and Human Services;
Mothers Against Drunk Driving; Montgomery County Department of Transportation, Division
of Transit Services; and the City of Rockville Department of Recreation and Parks.
