ELECTIONS OFFICE
WINS AWARDS For Immediate Release (July 23, 1997)

The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors of Elections was honored recently with
two awards for its work in the 1996 elections.
At its 26th annual conference in Philadelphia, the International Association of Clerks,
Recorders, Election Officials and Treasurers (IACREOT) awarded Montgomery County first
prize in the "Printed Materials" category for the 1996 Election Judge Manual. Produced for
use during the primary and general elections, the manual is a flip-file type document that
provides election officials with necessary and useful information to accomplish their tasks on
election day.
Additionally, the Supervisors of Elections office received an award from the National
Association of Counties (NACO) for its submission called Election Returns Via Internet."
This program was developed by the elections office in conjunction with the County’s
Department of Information Systems and Telecommunications (DIST) for the November, 1996
General Election. On election night, the public was able to view countywide election results
on the County's home site on the Internet (www.co.mo.md.us.). Also available on the site
were links to neighboring Prince George’s County, which shares a congressional district with
Montgomery County, and other links to state and national election returns.

ELECTIONS OFFICE WINS AWARDS 2-2-2-2

Susan E. Bratten, Board President, stated, "The Board is proud of the superior work
and dedication shown by the elections office staff under the direction of Elections
Administrator Carol S. Evans.
Evans commented, These awards are an acknowledgment of what Montgomery
County’s 450,000 registered voters already know -- that we have an extremely well run,
efficient and innovative elections office. I take great pride in the efforts made by my staff
that are reflected in these latest honors.
