MAILING OF SIMPLIFIED TAX BILLS
TO HOMEOWNERS IS NOW UNDERWAY For Immediate Release: August 1, 1997
With Montgomery County's annual mailing of tax bills underway, the County's
Department of Finance reminds homeowners and property owners that they can call the
County's tax line at 301-217-2920 with questions or, for those with internet access, fill out the
electronic questionnaire at www.co.mo.md.us/cgi/questfin.cgi.
The mailing of approximately 280,000 tax bills began in mid-July with the last bills
arriving at households by early August. The Department of Finance recommends that if you
experience delays when calling during peak hours, that you wait until mid-August to call.
Tax bills aren't due until September 30, 1997.
This year all property owners will receive actual tax bills; homeowner notices were
not mailed. On the tax bill, there is an indication as to whether or not a mortgage company
received a copy of the bill. If a mortgagee is indicated on the tax bill and the company is
correct, the property owner need not pay the bill as it will be paid by the mortgagee. If the
mortgagee information is incorrect or does not appear on the tax bill, the taxpayer should
contact the mortgagee. It is the taxpayer's responsibility to forward the original bill to the
correct mortgagee.
