U.S. EQUAL EMPLOYMENT
OPPORTUNITY CHAIRMAN TO
SPEAK AT COUNTY HISPANIC
HERITAGE MONTH EVENT          For Immediate Release:  September 12, 1997


     Gilbert F. Casellas, chairman of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
will be the featured speaker at a salute to Hispanic Heritage Month on September 30 at the
Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe Street, Rockville.  The event, which will be held in
the lobby auditorium from 2 to 4 p.m., is free and open to the public.
     Casellas was appointed to head the agency by President Clinton in 1994, and is the
first Latino to head the Commission.  During his remarks, Casellas will discuss the
commission's current and future role on equal employment opportunity and affirmative action
issues.
     A panel discussion on employment issues, moderated by Mayda Colon-Tsaknis, chair
of the Governor's Commission on Hispanic Affairs, will follow the keynote address.

     The program is sponsored by the Montgomery County Office of Human Resources,
the County Executive's Office of Community Outreach and the Montgomery County Hispanic
Employees' Association.
