COMMITTEE SEEKS NOMINATIONS
FOR HUMANITARIAN AWARDS For Immediate Release: October 2, 1997
Montgomery County's Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Committee (MLKCC)
is seeking nominations for three humanitarian awards that will be presented on January 19,
1998 at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration.
Nominees must be Montgomery County citizens who have demonstrated through deeds
and activities their commitment to perpetuate the goals and ideals communicated by Dr King.
Nominations for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award should include a
biographical sketch of the nominee, identifying community and civic accomplishments that
represent and symbolize the dream of Dr. King. Nominations may be made by citizens,
employers or members of the MLKCC. If the nominee was paid for the activities, they must
have been performed above and beyond the normal duties or expectations of the paid position.
Nominees for Children of the Dream awards -- which will be presented to a male and
female student in grades 9 through 12 -- must have demonstrated outstanding community
involvement as an individual volunteer or part of an organization. Activities may include a
single significant act or an ongoing effort, and must be above and beyond routine class work.
Nominees for each of the awards must have been actively involved in a

program or activity within the past year to qualify. All nominations must be submitted or
postmarked by December 1. They should be mailed or faxed (301-217- 2517) to Christine

The Montgomery County Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Committee is
sponsored by the Office of the County Executive and the City of Gaithersburg to organize
and produce the County's annual tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr.
