COUNTY OFFERS GRANTS
FOR INNOVATIVE DIVERSITY
PROGRAMS For Immediate Release: November 17, 1997
Montgomery County's Office of Human Resources is offering one-time grants to
ethnic community groups to fund innovative programs dealing with diversity issues.
The grants, funded through the Montgomery County Partnership for Community
Empowerment Program (PCEP), are being offered to non-profit organizations and agencies
representing ethnic (eg., African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans,
etc.), aging and disability groups. Programs proposed for grant funding should target
diversity issues, particularly in the areas of education, public awareness, economic
development, small business promotion, family support, work/life issues and youth initiatives.
Short proposals must be submitted by 5 p.m. on January 9, 1998, to the Montgomery
County Partnership for Community Empowerment Program, c/o Office of Human Resources,
101 Monroe Street, 7th Floor, Rockville, MD 20850. Grants will be announced in late May
1998, and projects and expenditures must occur between July 1, 1998 and June 30, 1999.
To assist community groups in applying for the grants, the Office of Human Resources
will hold two one-hour workshops to answer questions and assist organizations in completing
the grant application/proposal. The workshops will be held on Saturday, November 22 at

9 a.m. in the Executive Office Building, Lobby Auditorium, 101 Monroe Street, Rockville;
and Monday, November 24 at 7 p.m. in the Mid-County Regional Services Center,
2424 Reedie Drive, Wheaton.
