DUNCAN SEEKS APPLICANTS FOR
HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION For Immediate Release (Nov. 14, 1997)
County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applicants to fill three vacancies on
the Montgomery County Historic Preservation Commission. Two incumbents are eligible to
apply for reappointment.
The nine-member commission is responsible for approving historic area work permits
and for recommending historic sites and historic districts to the Planning Board for placement
on the Master Plan for Historic Preservation.
Applicants should have expertise in the field of history, architecture, preservation or
urban design, or should represent a special geographical area, or a social, economic or cultural
interest in the County. Owners of historic homes or residents of historic districts are also
encouraged to apply.
Meetings are usually held on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month.
Commissioners may be required to represent the Commission at Planning Board and County
Council hearings and to visit various historic sites during business hours and on weekends.
Members serve approximately 40 hours per month. They do not receive compensation, but
may be reimbursed for travel and dependent care expenses.
County residents must apply in writing by December 19 to County Executive Douglas

Applicants should enclose a resume that includes home and work telephone numbers
and that reflects their qualifications in at least one of the areas of expertise required.
Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one
such group at a time.
