DUNCAN NAMES MEMBERS OF
NEW STEERING COMMITTEE ON
SILVER SPRING REDEVELOPMENT For Immediate Release: Feb. 11, 1997

Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan today named 29 members to serve
on the newly established Silver Spring Redevelopment Steering Committee, in addition to the
two co-chairs he announced last month.
"This committee will be very instrumental in guiding a successful strategy for
redeveloping and revitalizing downtown Silver Spring," said Duncan. "I'm delighted that so
many outstanding Silver Spring area leaders are willing to give their valuable time and effort
to help ensure a bright future for their community," said Duncan.
Steve Silverman, a Silver Spring attorney and immediate past president of the Greater
Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce, and Laura Steinberg, a PTA leader from the Blair
cluster and a school system employee, were named previously by Duncan to head the new
steering committee.
The 31-member committee is comprised of representatives of civic, business and
community groups in the Silver Spring area, and at-large members from throughout the
community, including members of minority groups and education organizations. In addition
to the 31 voting members, the committee includes an ex-officio membership made up of the
State senators and delegates from Districts 18 and 20. The steering committee's mission will
be to address issues related to the redevelopment and revitalization of Silver Spring.
