SILVER SPRING HOLIDAY
LIGHTING SET FOR DECEMBER 1;
DASHER SHOPPER SHUTTLE
SERVICE LAUNCHED For Immediate Release: November 19, 1997
Downtown Silver Spring will hold its annual holiday lighting ceremony on December
1 at 5:30 p.m. in the park located at Colesville Road and Wayne Avenue (located behind the
Tastee Diner). Thousands of individual lights will be illuminated on the tops of buildings in
the downtown area, as well as the Peace Fountain near the Metro station. The program will
feature door prizes and giveaways, hot chocolate, caroling by the Eastern Middle School
choir, live entertainment and appearances by "Monty the Penguin" and "Dasher the Reindeer".
Also at the event, the Downtown Silver Spring Urban District will launch Dasher, its
holiday shopper shuttle service. Holiday shoppers in Silver Spring can take the free shuttle
service between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m The shuttle, now in its fifth year of operation, runs
every 3-minutes and makes 11 stops in the downtown area.
The event will also kick-off button sales for the County's New Year's Eve celebration
-- First Night Montgomery County. On December 31, from 3 p.m. to midnight, downtown
Silver Spring will host its third annual family-oriented New Year's Eve party, featuring more
than 100 professional artists and entertainers, including the '60s and '70s top recording group,

The Association, best known for their number one hits Never My Love, Windy and Cherish.
Admission buttons are $7 per person through December 24. Children under six are free.
Buttons may also be purchased at the event on New Year's Eve at $10 per person.
