COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES PROGRAM
FOR MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.'s
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION For Immediate Release: November 24, 1997

Montgomery County's Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Committee (MLKCC)
has announced the program for the 1998 Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration, which
will be held at 3 p.m. on January 19 in the Performing Arts Center on the campus of
Montgomery College in Rockville. The annual program is sponsored by Montgomery County
and the City of Gaithersburg.
Congresswoman Constance A. Morella will be the featured speaker for this year's
program, "Remember! Celebrate! Act!: Envision the Future." Musical entertainment will be
provided by several groups and individuals, including the Children's Choir of Gaithersburg and
opera singer Leslie Hamilton. A reception will immediately follow the program.
The event will also feature presentations of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Humanitarian Award and Children of the Dream Awards. The annual awards recognize County
residents who have demonstrated a commitment to perpetuating the goals and ideals
communicated by Dr. King. In addition, the City of Gaithersburg will announce the winners of
this year's essay contest, co-sponsored by the Gazette Newspapers.
The program is free. However, persons attending are asked to bring a non-perishable
food item, which will be distributed to a needy family.
Montgomery College is located at Route 355 and Mannakee Street.
