PUBLIC BRIEFING SET ON
OLD COLUMBIA PIKE STUDY            For Immediate Release:  Feb. 12, 1997



     Montgomery County's Department of Public Works and Transportation will hold a
public briefing to provide area residents with an update and solicit their input on the current
transportation safety study of Old Columbia Pike, from Randolph Road to MD Route 198. 
The briefing will be held at the Benjamin Banneker Middle School Cafeteria, 14800
Perrywood Drive in Silver Spring, on Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 7- 9 p.m.  In the event of
inclement weather, Thursday, Feb. 27 is the backup date.
     Proposed safety improvements to Old Columbia Pike -- including bike lanes and
sidewalks -- will be reviewed and discussed at the briefing.  Persons who may need special 
services or accomodations in order to participate in this briefing are asked to call Gail Tait-
Nouri at 217-2145 (Voice) or 217-2601 (TDD) by Tuesday, Feb. 18.
     Persons with Internet access may obtain more information on the Old Columbia Pike
safety improvement study and other current transportation studies by consulting the County
