ST. ELIZABETH SCHOOL WINS
RIDE ON’S MURAL CONTEST For Immediate Release: February 27, 1997

Students from the St. Elizabeth School in Rockville captured first place honors in the
Ride On bus system’s annual mural contest for sixth graders. Sponsored by Montgomery
County’s Department of Public Works and Transportation, the contest celebrates Earth Day
and National Transportation Week. The competition is open to both public and private
schools in Montgomery County.
St. Elizabeth’s winning mural depicts a colorful scene showing commuters riding a
Ride On bus and others waiting for the bus and carpooling in a pollution-free community.
The mural features the slogan: To Lessen Pollution .Ride On Buses are the Solution.
In recognition of the students’ efforts, the art class will be taken on a field trip on a
Ride On bus. The students will also receive Ride On 20-Trip Tickets, Ride On T-shirts and a
first place certificate.
We’ve been delighted by the creative and colorful murals submitted by the students,
said Carolyn Biggins, Chief of the Division of Transit Services. They show concern for the
environment and creativity in displaying commuting alternatives.
Second and third place went to Christ Episcopal School in Rockville and Benjamin
Banneker Middle School in Burtonsville, respectively. Honorable mentions went to Argyle
Middle School, The Chelsea School, Connelly School of the Holy Child and North Chevy
Chase Elementary School.
