DUNCAN SEEKS APPLICANTS FOR
SILVER SPRING TRANSPORTATION
SYSTEM MANAGEMENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE     For Immediate Release (Feb. 27, 1997)


     County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applicants to fill six
 vacancies on the Silver Spring Transportation System Management Advisory
Committee.
     Two vacancies, one full-term and one partial-term expiring in June 1999, 
must be filled by representatives from a large business (ones which employ
more than 50 employees in the Silver Spring business district).  One vacancy 
is for a person nominated by the Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce.  One
vacancy is for a small business representative, and two vacancies must be
filled by nominees from the Silver Spring Center Citizens Advisory Board.  The
incumbents representing the Silver Spring Center Advisory Board and one large
business representive are eligible to apply for reappointment.
     The advisory committee monitors employer plans, proposes guidelines for
lessening traffic, reviews traffic patterns and makes recommendations on
commuting, parking and other related matters.     
     The committee consists of l2 voting members along with four non-voting
members who represent the County's Department of Transportation, Department of
Police, Planning Board and the Silver Spring Center.  Members serve three-year
terms without compensation,  meeting the second Thursday of the month at 8
a.m. in Silver Spring.   Additional meetings may be held as necessary.

     Applicants should write by March 28, indicating the vacancy for which
they wish to be considered along with a brief resume including home and work
telephone numbers to County Executive Douglas M. Duncan at the Executive 
Office Building, l0l Monroe Street, Rockville, MD  20850.  Members of County
boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group
at a time.
     Duncan's appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council.
Applications of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the
confirmation process.
