MID-COUNTY CENTER
TO OPEN OLNEY SATELLITE For Immediate Release: March 13, 1997

The Mid-County Services Center's Olney Satellite Office, located in the Olney Library,
will open on April 4.
The Olney Office will enable center staff to conduct outreach activities to residents,
businesses and homeowner and civic associations in the Olney area. The staff will spend
several weeks visiting local businesses and community leaders to assess their needs and
interests.
Natalie Cantor, director of the Mid-County Services Center, which is located in
Wheaton, said, "This new office is intended to provide a presence for the center in one of the
fastest growing sections of our service area." The center boundaries extend from Howard
County in the north, to the Beltway in the south; the eastern boundary follows Sligo Creek to
Northwest Branch Creek; the western boundary is Hipsley Mill Road and Rock Creek. The
Center and the new Olney office will serve as liaisons between the communities within these
boundaries and Montgomery County agencies.
"The need for such a Satellite Office was recommended in the 1996 Regional Services
Centers Strategic Plan. We are especially grateful to Olney Librarian Elaine Barkley, and her
staff, who have generously cooperated as our partners in developing and implementing this
initiative," Cantor said.

The center's staff acts as a link to the Office of the County Executive on policy and
budget issues, planning, goal setting and legislative matters. The staff offers problem solving
and assistance to neighborhoods, associations, businesses and County agencies to provide
local needs and direct responses in a timely and effective manner.
A grand opening ceremony is planned for late April.
