RE-OPEN DIALOGUE For Immediate Release (March 24, 1997)
Signaling an effort at a new beginning, Montgomery County Executive Douglas M.
Duncan and MC-NAACP President Linda Plummer met last evening to re-open a dialogue
and build a foundation of trust from which they could work together to improve the quality
of life for all citizens of Montgomery County.
The meeting was arranged by Ms. Trudye Johnson, a member of the MC-NAACP
Communications Committee, along with County Council member Michael Subin, both of
whom were present at the Sunday evening gathering. Also in attendance were Mr. Leroy
Warren, Maj. Gen. Arthur Holmes. Jr. (U.S. Army, Ret.), Dr. Owen D. Nichols, Ms.
Ruby Rubens, Mr. Lou D’Ovidio of Mr. Subin’s staff and Mr. Jerry Pasternak of Mr.
Duncan’s staff.
The discussion focused on four significant issues: economic development, housing,
law enforcement and communication. All parties were encouraged by the positive tone of the
meeting and the desire of all parties to work together in the future.
Our goal is to look to the future and work with the County Executive, said Ms.
Plummer. We believe that Mr. Duncan has demonstrated his commitment to addressing the
concerns that we have raised, and we want to help him find the solutions to these important
matters.

DUNCAN MEETS WITH NAACP 2-2-2-2
I appreciate the opportunity to meet with Ms. Plummer and her NAACP team, said
Mr. Duncan. The Montgomery County Chapter of the NAACP can play an important role
in making this County the best place in which to live, work, and raise a family. My hope is
that we can continue the dialogue and work cooperatively together.
