Duncan to Host "Congestion Summit"
Aimed at Identifying Traffic Remedies
Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan has invited key leaders from the County's civic, development, business and environmental communities, along with various elected officials and County and State transportation officials, to participate in a "Congestion Summit" on Wednesday, September 23 at the Bethesda Hyatt Regency.
The theme of the event, "Real Solutions to a Real Problem," captures the conference's purpose, which is to seek solutions to traffic congestion problems in Montgomery County by identifying projects and actions which can be implemented rapidly and provide measurable relief.
"Although we must continue to forge ahead with needed long-range transportation improvements, the primary focus of this meeting will be to come up with achievable, short-term solutions to our congestion problems," said Duncan. "Our intention will be to emphasize transportation projects and initiatives that will be most likely to reduce the traffic congestion problems we face today."
Potential traffic solutions discussed at the summit will not be limited to one form, or mode, of travel. Transit services, road facilities and advanced transportation management systems will all be addressed, in terms of the role they can play in solving congestion problems
