Mid-County Citizens Advisory Board
Presents Annual Community Awards

The Mid-County Citizens Advisory Board will present its Civic Association of the Year Award and Citizen of the Year Award on September 28 at the annual awards banquet of the Wheaton-Kensington Chamber of Commerce, to be held at the Anchor Inn on University Boulevard in Wheaton.

The Kensington Heights Citizens Association (KHCA) will receive the Wheaton-Kensington Civic Association of the Year Award. The KHCA, which includes 700 single-family homes, was recently revitalized with new bylaws and a new Executive Committee. Among its accomplishments during the past year was initiating a twice-yearly traffic awareness day; maintaining ongoing communication with the owners of Wheaton Plaza regarding residents' concerns and needed revitalization of the shopping center; and conducting regular discussions with elected County and State officials regarding concerns of KHCA members.

Marian Fryer, president of the Wheaton Citizens Coalition, will be honored as this year's Wheaton-Kensington Citizen of the Year. Fryer currently is a member of the Wheaton Urban District Advisory Committee and a past member of the Mid-County Citizens Advisory Board. She has also served on the Commission for Women and the Housing and Community Development Citizens Advisory Committee.

Fryer, who retired after more than 30 years with the District of Columbia and Federal governments, uses her business experience to conduct workshops and seminars on dressing for business for organizations such as Crossway Community's Work Training program. As the owner of Marian's Connections, a consignment shop specializing in high-quality, upscale clothing for women, she donates accessories and clothing to women going on job interviews, as well as to non-profit groups.
