Ride On's "Give and Ride" Food Drive
To Run from November 16-22

Ride On Bus riders in Montgomery County can help needy families this holiday season by providing a donation of canned or nonperishable food and, in exchange, receive a free bus ride. Ride On's 12th annual "Give and Ride" food drive will run from Monday, November 16 through Sunday, November 22.

All donations of canned or nonperishable foods will be sent to the Manna Food Center, Inc., a non-profit organization that distributes food to local families and individuals in need.

"No one should go hungry in our community," said Carolyn Biggins, Chief of the County's Division of Transit Services. "We ask our riders to give generously to make this holiday season happier and healthier for all of our families."

Food collection bags will be placed near the fare box on all Ride On buses. In exchange for a food donation, passengers will ride the bus for free.

All food donations, whether one or more cans, will be valued at the peak fare of $1.10. A transfer will be issued upon request. Riders who wish to buy a Maryland Mover All Day Transfer will need to add $1.40 to the fare box during rush hour or 40 cents during all other times.

Residents who do not ride the bus but wish to donate food items can participate by giving their donation to a bus operator at any Ride On bus stop. For bus stop locations or bus schedules, call the County's Transit Information Center at (301) 217-7433. The TDD/TTY number is (301) 217-2222. Persons calling from a pay phone can call toll free at 1-800-732-3327. Also, route and timetable information is available on Ride On's web site (www.dpwt.com/rideon).
