Public Works Crews To Begin
Special Neighborhood Storm Debris Cleanup;
Pickup Dates To Be Posted on Signs

Due to the severity of tree damage throughout Montgomery County as a result of last week's ice storm, the County's Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPWT) will be making curbside collections of debris for the next several weeks.

Beginning tomorrow, signs will be posted in neighborhoods in the down-county area (south of Route 28 and east of Georgia Ave.) announcing dates for a one-time pickup of tree debris. The pickups will occur three to five days after the signs have been posted. Collection efforts will begin on Thursday, January 21. Residents are asked to have all debris at the curbside by the announced date, as crews will not go on private property to remove the debris. County officials say that the collection effort will take four to six weeks to complete.

For emergency debris removal, such as road closures and other hazardous conditions, persons should call 301-217-2159.

Residents with lesser amounts of debris from the storm damage, may also place bundled tree limbs and branches at curbside for removal as part of their normal weekly recycling pickup. In addition, debris is accepted year-round at the public unloading facility of the County's Solid Waste Transfer Station, Mondays through Saturdays, from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. The facility is located at 16101 Frederick Road, near the intersection of Shady Grove and Frederick (RT. 355) roads in Derwood.

Residents with questions about the curbside collection effort should call the County's Division of Highway Services at 301-217-2159.
