Montgomery County Pays Tribute
To Tuskegee Airmen at Black History Month Program

In celebration of Black History Month, the public is invited to a program on Tuesday, February 2 to honor former members of the Tuskegee Airman, the first African Americans chosen as pilots in the U.S. armed forces. The program, which will include an autograph session with the airmen, will be held at 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe Street in Rockville. The program is sponsored by the County Executive's Office of Community Outreach, and the United Black Cultural Center.

Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan and members of the County Council will be among those honoring the World War II veterans. Three of the airmen being honored -- George O. Walker III, William Hymes and George Henry -- are Montgomery County residents, and Maxwell Honemond of Washington, D.C. was also born and raised in Poolesville.

The program will feature musical entertainment by a gospel group and Springbrook High School's Step Team. Soloist Monique Scott will also perform.

All activities are free. Parking is available in the garage under the building on the G-2 level, and across the street in the Stella Werner Council Office Building garage, located at the intersection of East Jefferson and Monroe streets.

The Executive Office Building is located three blocks from the Rockville Metro Station. For more information, call 217-2500.
