County to Hold Public Forum on
Proposed Ride On Fare Changes

Montgomery County residents are invited to a public forum on proposed Ride On fare changes that would take effect July 1. The forum will be held on Thursday, February 18, 7:30 p.m. in the County Council Office Building's first floor auditorium, 100 Maryland Avenue, Rockville.

One proposed change, aimed at reducing the cost of transit use, would be to create a new 25-cent rail-to-bus transfer ticket. Under the proposal, riders who use the Metrorail system and transfer to Ride On or Metrobus would need only to show a rail-to-bus transfer from their originating station and pay 25 cents to board the bus. Rail-to-bus transfers for seniors or persons with disabilities would be free. The current free rail-to-bus transfer at the Shady Grove Station would be terminated.

A second proposed change is the elimination of the $1.50 off-peak Maryland Mover All Day Transfer. Currently, the Maryland Mover All Day Transfer is available for purchase from the bus operator at $2.50 during peak morning hours and $1.50 during the rest of the day. In its place would be a new one-day pass valid for use on Ride On and throughout the entire regional Metrobus system. This pass would cost $2.50.

One-way, off-peak Ride On bus fares, which are currently 90 cents, will remain unchanged.

Comments on these proposed changes may be submitted no later than Wednesday, February 24, 1999, and sent to: Carolyn Biggins, Chief, Division of Transit Services, 110 North Washington Street, Suite 200, Rockville, MD 20850 or e-mail comments to carolyn.jones@montgomerycountymd.gov.

In case of inclement weather and evening activities on Thursday, February 18 are cancelled, the forum will be rescheduled for Thursday, February 25, 1999, at the same time and place. For more information, call Montgomery County's Transit Information Center at 301-217-RIDE (301-217-7433). The TDD/TTY number is 301-217-2222.
