COUNTY CABLE GETS NEW NAME

County Cable 55, the government access channel, has changed its name to County Cable Montgomery in order to be more in tune with upcoming changes in cable television service. The channel will feature a new logo along with its new name.

Created to expand and enhance public participation in the governmental process, County Cable Montgomery disseminates information about the County by broadcasting live County Council sessions, public hearings, committee sessions and Council and Executive press conferences. The channel also creates and presents programs that expand citizen awareness of the County and facilitate two-way communication between citizens and government officials.

Regular programming focuses on improving citizen access to County programs and services by publicizing the availability of such resources. Regular shows include "Parks - Yours for Life," highlighting activities in our local parks and recreation centers; "Sights on Seniors," which provides information for seniors, caregivers, and families; "Celebrate Diversity," highlighting the diversity of the County; and "Make a Difference - Volunteering in Montgomery County" featuring volunteer opportunities in the Washington Metropolitan area.

Other regular programs include "Council in Brief," a wrap-up of the regular Tuesday Council session; "County Profiles" focusing on a Montgomery County community or a County department; "Up for Discussion," an in-depth discussion with a Council member; "The Decision Makers," a visit with local elected officials; "Montgomery County Comments," a weekly public affairs show; and "Montgomery Focus," highlighting the activities of the County Executive. The channel also produces one-time events and specials.

Up-to-the-minute traffic information is aired every day from 4:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and again from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday During weather emergencies, the channel also offers information on government and school closings.
