COUNTY SEEKS VOLUNTEERS FOR
ABUSED PERSONS PROGRAM

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services' Abused Persons Program is seeking volunteers to work with victims of domestic violence who are seeking legal remedies for protection. There is a special need for bi-lingual volunteers.

Volunteers are needed for the following positions:

  • Court Companions-volunteers who accompany clients to civil and criminal court proceedings and offer support and information to victims throughout the legal process. Volunteers are asked to be on-call three times per month.

  • Victim Assistants-volunteers who work in the courthouse providing information and help with safety planning for domestic violence victims seeking court-ordered relief. Volunteers are asked to commit one day per month.

All volunteers must attend a 40-hour training program, to learn about the program, the court system and domestic violence laws. Training is held at the Rockville offices of the Abused Persons Program and includes site visits to the court. A 12-month commitment to the program is required.

For more information or to apply, please call the Abused Persons Program at 240-777-4210, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Applications will be accepted through December 15.
