Duncan Seeks Taxicab Services
Advisory Committee Applicants
County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applicants to fill five vacancies on the Taxicab Services Advisory Committee. One vacancy must be filled by a taxicab owner operator and is for a partial term expiring December 2001. One vacancy is for a representative of people with disabilities and is for a partial term expiring 12/2000. One vacancy is for a full 3-year term for a taxicab non-owner operator and two full term vacancies are for public representatives. Three incumbents are eligible to apply for reappointment.
The committee's purpose is to advise the Director of the Department of Public Works and Transportation relating to the duties and functions in regulating taxicabs and evaluating the performance of the taxicab industry in serving segments of the population with special transportation needs.
The Taxicab Services Advisory Committee has nine members. Four members represent the taxicab industry (two must represent management and two must be taxicab drivers); and five members represent the general public, including one who represents people with disabilities. Members serve without compensation. It is estimated that the committee will meet ten times a year. Meetings are usually held the third Tuesday of the month in the evening in the Executive Office Building, Rockville.
Applicants should write by December 22 to County Executive Douglas M. Duncan at the Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe St., Rockville, Md 20850. A resume with home and office telephone numbers should be included. Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time.
Duncan's appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. Applications of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the confirmation process.
