Duncan Seeks Applicants For
Montgomery County Commission for Celebration 2000
Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applicants to fill vacancies on the Montgomery County Commission for Celebration 2000. The purpose of this group is to help the County plan, coordinate, and develop celebrations for the new millennium. Duncan is a member of the Maryland Commission for Celebration 2000, which was established to coordinate statewide activities for the millennium celebrations, recognize the contributions of Marylanders, and act as a clearinghouse of information about millennium activities. The Maryland Commission will serve as a resource to the County Commission.
Membership on this Commission will number 25, and will include representatives from the following; Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, the City of Rockville, the City of Gaithersburg, the City of Takoma Park, the Montgomery County Chapter of the Maryland Municipal League; Montgomery County Public Schools, Montgomery College, County Council, Commission on the Humanities, Montgomery County Arts Council, Commission on Aging, Ethnic Affairs Committee, Commission on People with Disabilities, Commission for Women, Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission; Department of Recreation, Montgomery County Historical Society; two Montgomery County youths, and six representatives of the public at large.
The term of Commissioners will end at the conclusion of the Year 2000 events. Meeting dates will be determined once initial appointments are made, but will be held at least monthly. Additionally subcommittees will be established as necessary to accomplish the purpose of the Commission.
Interested applicants should write to County Executive Douglas M. Duncan no later than March 19 at the Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe Street, Rockville, Md. 20850. Applicants should include a brief resume including home and work phone numbers. Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time.
Duncan's appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. Applications of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the confirmation process.
