CUB SCOUT RECYCLING PROJECT
RECOGNIZED BY COUNTY EXECUTIVE
The efforts of local Cub Scouts to help boost the County's goal of recycling 50 percent by the year 2000 received some special recognition today from County Executive Douglas M. Duncan.
Seven scouts from Pack 462 in the Germantown area received recycling patches from the Executive who also recognized scout executives from three local districts who had been instrumental in developing the recycling outreach program with the County's Division of Solid Waste Services.
To earn a patch, the scouts must deliver - in person - specially compiled packets of recycling information to 10 residents. Scouts from the Seneca, Potomac and Olde Mill districts of the National Capital Area Council, Boy Scouts of America are participating.
Thirty-five thousand packets were designed and assembled by Division of Solid Waste Services staff, with assistance from community service workers.
Cub Scouts who received their patches at the ceremony in Rockville were: Alex Cartagena, Danny Howard, Sol Lichtman, Satish Mishra, Kevin Mooney, Brian Styer and Steve Ryall.
"We appreciate the interest expressed by the National Capital Area Council and the three local districts in helping us to reach our 50 percent recycling goal," said Duncan. "Their person-to-person contact with so many households will go a long way in support of our goal."
The patch was designed by Mickey O'Bradovich of Solid Waste Services, and Scout District Executives Pearl S. Parker and Jim Fustero.
