HELP NEEDED FOR SPECIAL
PAXTUXENT RIVER CLEAN-UP
Residents interested in helping to preserve local water quality are invited by the Izaak Walton League (IWL) Wildlife Achievement Chapter to participate in a clean up along the Upper Patuxent River on March 27.
The clean up will begin at 8:30 a.m. where Brown Church Road and the river meet in upper Montgomery County, north of Damascus and Claggettsville. Parking and water will be available on site, and the IWL will provide lunch.
Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes and are asked to bring shovels, rakes and gloves.
The clean up is sponsored by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Adopt-A-Stream Program and the member agencies of the Patuxent Reservoirs Watershed Protection group, including Montgomery County. The IWL has organized clean ups in various locations along the Patuxent as part of their commitment to resource conservation.
This year's clean up is being connected to the Reservoirs Watershed Day, which will focus on increasing environmental awareness and citizen stewardship. Reservoirs Watershed Day will be held on May at Rocky Gorge Reservoir in Laurel.
To volunteer or to receive more information, call Bill Kelly at 301-253-5009.
