NEW NOISE CONTROL BROCHURE
ISSUED BY COUNTY

An updated brochure on noise control is now available from the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection.

Noise Control: A Sound Solution includes comprehensive revisions to the local Noise Control Ordinance passed by the County Council. It also offers common sense guidelines for residents and businesses, promoting a restful, pleasant environment, and it provides remedies for situations in which noise exceeds reasonable limits.

The brochure presents information on day/night sound level limits and "quiet hours" -- those times on weekdays from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. and weekends and holidays from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. when it is unlawful to create noises louder than 55 decibels that travel to another property. Two people conducting a conversation standing 10 feet apart is equivalent to 55 decibels.

For more information on the Noise Control Ordinance, or to report situations that may constitute violations, call DEP at 301-217-2177, weekdays. To report noise disturbances outside regular business hours, call the police non-emergency line at 301-279-8000.
