County Forms Public/Private
Opportunities Team to Help
Inform Small and Minority Businesses
Montgomery County's Department of Economic Development (DED), through its newly formed Public/Private Opportunities Team, is bringing representatives from the county's larger private industries together with small and minority business owners to help each learn more about the other and to identify available contracting opportunities and/or contract suppliers.
The team includes representatives from the Commission for Women, Women Business Owners of Montgomery County, Montgomery County Business Resource Center, Office of Procurement, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, African American Business Council, Asian American Business Council, Women Construction Owners and Executives, and chambers of commerce.
Several local business owners met with the team last month at the offices of Clark Construction in Bethesda, to learn of potential contract opportunities that the company has available. The group also discussed specific criteria commonly used to select a contractor from among competing businesses.
Past presenters have included Donohoe Construction, Foulger-Pratt Companies, McCarthy Construction, Standard Supplies, Inc., and the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC).
