COUNTY OFFERS FREE MULCH;
NEW MULCH PRESERVE SITES NEEDED
Just in time for spring gardening and planting, residents are reminded that there is still plenty of free mulch available at the Montgomery County Transfer Station, located at Route 355 and Shady Grove Road.
The mulch may be used as ground cover and on plants with mature (mot more than two years old) root systems, such as bushes, shrubs and trees. It is not recommended for ornamental plants such as roses and tulips.
The County's Division of Solid Waste Services (DSWS) is also looking for temporary or permanent areas that could serve as Neighborhood Mulch Preserves. DSWS is asking community groups and civic associations to identify sites within their communities where the County could deliver mulch to be picked up by the public. DSWS will also work with schools or church groups interested in establishing a Neighborhood Mulch Preserve.
Beginning April 1, free mulch will be available for pick up at Wheaton Plaza in the parking lot adjacent to the University Boulevard entrance.
For more information on establishing a Neighborhood Mulch Preserve, call 301-217-2770.
