COUNTY REESTABLISHES
FEDERAL WORKER HELP LINE For Immediate Release: December 27, 1995
Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan today announced the return of the County's federal worker help line to provide referral and resource information for local federal government employees during the second government shutdown.
"I had hoped that the President and Congress would have reached some sort of an agreement on the budget by now," said Duncan. "However, it appears that they are still days away from getting together to work out a budget compromise. With more than 78,000 of our residents employed by the federal government, we can't sit idle and wait this thing out. We have to do something."
By calling the Montgomery County Federal Worker Help Line -- 301-217-4949 -- daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (including weekends), federal and District of Columbia workers who live in the County can receive information and referrals on services and programs. The help line is staffed by volunteers and staff from the County's Volunteer and Community Service Center in Rockville.
Ride-On, the County's bus system, will provide a week's worth of tokens for federal workers. Tokens may be picked up at the Volunteer Center, 401 Fleet Street, Rockville.
Duncan also renewed his appeal to area businesses that might need

temporary workers. "I urge our business community to support our local federal
workers by letting us know if they have temporary jobs that could be filled by the furloughed workers," said Duncan. Local businesses may also call the help line to report openings or temporary job leads.
Anyone calling the help line after 5 p.m. may leave a message for a return phone call the following day.
