ABSENTEE BALLOT DEADLINE NEARS FOR
VOTERS IN MARCH 5 PRIMARY ELECTION FOR RELEASE: February 28, 1996
Although the deadline has passed for voters to apply for an absentee
ballot, those who qualify to vote by emergency absentee ballot in the March 5
Presidential Primary Election may still apply.
For the convenience of voters, the Absentee Department of the
Supervisors of Elections has extended its usual 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekday hours
to Saturday, March 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Voters qualify to vote by emergency absentee ballot if any of the
following applies: they are handicapped or 65 years of age or older and their
polling place is designated non-accessible; they are a full-time student at a
college or university located outside their precinct, and their academics
preclude their presence at the polls on election day; they are unable to be
present at the polls because of death or serious injury in their immediate
family; or they are unable to be present at the polls as a result of illness
or accident.
The elections office is located at 751 Twinbrook Parkway, Rockville, in
the former Broome Middle School. The building is about a half-mile north of
Veirs Mill Road.
