ALTERNATE POLLING PLACES
FOR HANDICAPPED VOTERS For Immediate Release: Dec 11, 1995
Handicapped voters who live in precincts where the polling place
is not accessible because of structural barriers may be assigned to an
alternate polling place, if such is available. An application for
reassignment must be made to the elections office no later than 9 p.m.,
February 5, 1996, four weeks prior to the Presidential Primary Election
on March 5, 1996.
You may check your Voter Notification card for Accessibility status or
you may call the Supervisors of Election at 217-6450.
To request an application form, voters should call the elections office,
217-6450. Election officials urge that you submit your request as soon
as possible.
Reassignment is permitted by law if a barrier-free polling place is
available in a precinct which has a ballot identical to the one in which
the voter resides.
If a satisfactory substitute polling place is not available, or if the
voter with a disability does not wish to be reassigned, voting by
absentee ballot is an alternative. The deadline for receipt of an
application for an absentee ballot is February 27, 1996. For
information on absentee voting, call the Absentee Voting Department,
217-6460.
